A global consulting firm, with a strong Canadian presence

Need

The firm initiated a number of mergers and acquisitions over the last few years in order to grow rapidly as well as increase capability and range of service. Recently, a small software firm was merged with the larger practice to create a significant presence in the marketplace. One of the Principals from the software firm became a Partner and he was interested in leadership coaching to support his rapid integration into the new business.

Approach

Key areas were identified to increase the new Partner's effectiveness and impact to facilitate his rapid integration into the firm. He was observed while he handled complex issues within his new environment. Observations included two-person meetings where the Partner was a participant as well as larger groups where the Partner was a key player.

Frank but supportive feedback along with recommendations for improvement were the key "deliverables." The focus was on the available range of options in any given situation and the probable consequences of one course of action over another.

Benefit

The new Partner understood the significant differences between the cultures of the two firms. He recognized his need to look at new ways of approaching issues in the interests of his long-term success in the new environment. As he became more involved with the firm's growth, the Partner was recognized as a successful, integral player who enjoyed the challenges of the larger, global organization.
