A major energy producer in Western Canada

Need

Deregulation within the energy sector required the company to establish a comprehensive technology platform in order to re-engineer the business. The Client wanted to transform its broader change management stream of work into a more focused effort for its senior leadership team. A major challenge in re-positioning the organization to compete effectively in the industry was to engage the key people directly in these changes.

Approach

The focus was on the following three key elements: coaching the Project Sponsor to develop clear responsibilities and accountabilities for his leadership of the project; assisting the Acting CEO in his new role; and working with the Vice-Presidents who were skeptical about the potential success for the overall initiative.

Individual sessions with the Project Sponsor and the Acting CEO assisted them to clarify the outcomes that were required and explore the range of available choices to determine the most appropriate responses to reposition the organization. Sessions with the Vice-Presidents assisted them to accept the specific shared responsibilities related to various aspects of the work.

Benefit

The project was the single, most-successful undertaking by the corporation. The collaborative effort of the key players helped identify roadblocks and find solutions. The Board became enormously supportive of its executive group, who accepted joint responsibility for the project to ensure a successful transition for the business.
